I guess I am late. I personally spend a lot of time on the TAGGING in Delhi. Not only do I cover the tagging, I explain to the kids how tagging effects the value of their home. We all work very hard for what we own/rent. I do not think that kids have the right to destroy what we have worked so hard for. As with most things, I believe the problem starts at home.

Delhi did not have a fireworks show this year due to lack of funding, but there was a parade and a community festival thanks to the efforts of Community Unity and Living Grace Church.

Did you watch the parade? If so, what did you think of it?

I took a few of our journalism students and we participated in the parade. Hopefully you got a copy of the most recent Delhi Express printed edition as we were handing them out. It was great to be a part of this parade.

If you were in the parade, what did you think?

How about Freedom Festival 2009? Did you brave the heat and go? What did you think of it? We were out at the festival also promoting the newspaper and art in Delhi.

Did you miss the fireworks? If so...what suggestions do you have? What would you be willing to do to help bring fireworks back to Delhi next year? Did you know that if everyone in Delhi gave just $1, it would nearly pay for the fireworks?

Use this thread to share your Fourth of July 2009 stories and feedback, but to also brainstorm ideas for future Fourth of July events.

I think getting involved with local events and sports would be a good way. For example: "to learn more about Swim lessons, please log on to the Delhi Express". You could have this posted on the digital information board (at the corner where the Sheriff's station is located).
Encourage coaches to post their stats on the forums or highlight a player or game.

I prefer to do things electronically. I read the paper online, pay bills, etc. The more you offer, the better traffic you'll get.

You could also advertise for garage sales and have a sales section (similar to craigs list).

I absolutely agree with you. We have done everything from mass mailing the newspaper to appearing at community events. We work hard to make as many people aware of the newspaper, the website and forums as we can. If people have any additional ideas, I'd be open to hearing them, of course. The cool thing is that it is not uncommon for our online stories to appear at the top of Google news searches. We have some decent web traffic, but we're not getting as many people involved on the forums section as we would like.

If you don't have one available, you can download a PDF version of it here at delhiexpressnews.com. We look forward to your responses. You can post them here in this thread, submit them through the website, e-mail them or leave them at a local business for pick up.
rebekah on "Should there be a playing football team this year?"

When Delhi High School was new and just starting to organize a football team, the stands were empty. They played games at odd times. The team was small. They lost. They lost pretty much every game. There were a few faithful fans who went to every game. They stayed loyal to the hometown team and still go to games today. I remember being bundled up on a cold, wet, rainy Saturday morning taking photos of one of those early football games. There is always hope.

Personally, I think it would ultimately be more demoralizing and cause more future problems if they did not at least attempt to play the games they have scheduled this year. The team grew and strengthened from a small team everyone expected to lose and became a powerhouse even going to the playoffs. It happened before and it can happen again. I think that saying that they are promised to lose every game is a little too defeatist. On any given Friday night, any given team can win. They may have to work harder than other teams, but I believe they should stay the course. I hope the fans will hang in there with them. We should give our support not only to the players but to the new coaching staff. This team has essentially been abandoned and the new coaching staff came on board and will do their best. That in itself is worthy of our support.

No one ever suggests the Raiders or 49ers call their season because they are assured of a losing season. Professional teams have losing seasons all the time. There are some professional sports teams that are notorious losers and yet, their fans remain loyal. I believe we should do the same.

Go Hawks!

Perhaps this week I will start wearing my Hawk Pride bracelets again to help do my part to show that I support our team and I am not a fair-weathered fan (or reporter). Now, the question is...what does everyone else think and what will everyone else do?

We will greatly miss KC's and hope it opens again soon in a new location. It was the Friday lunch spot for many teachers at DHS and now they are having to eat and meet else where. The ownership was great in responding to problems and did their best to make it a welcoming and fun family environment.

We were just talking amongst ourselves and wondered out loud if Delhi HS should even be fielding a team with only 15 players. Loosing is pretty much a promised thing at this point. Wouldn't it be better to just practice the heck out of this team while trying to recruit more players? Isn't loosing all the time going to be demoralizing and cause the kids to not want to join a loosing football team? What are your thoughts?
